Ashish Damodar Wele is a highly experienced Agri-Business professional with over 40 years of international expertise. His distinguished career focuses on biofortification, agri-biotechnology, and strategic agribusiness development, driven by a commitment to improving global nutrition and sustainable agriculture systems.
He is widely recognized for advancing biofortified crops such as high-zinc rice, pearl millet, and sorghum. He effectively connects scientific innovation with practical agribusiness execution, building bridges between research institutions, private companies, and governments.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wele has collaborated with leading global institutions including the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), HarvestPlus, and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). He has led multi-country initiatives aimed at promoting nutrition-sensitive agriculture across Asia, Africa, and Europe.
From 2015 to 2016, he served as Strategic Alliance Head – Asia Pacific for IFPRI, and between 2021 and 2023, he worked as a Biofortification Expert in India. Since 2024, he has been an Advisor for Public-Private Partnership initiatives under the World Economic Forum for Asia & Africa (WEFAA), supporting critical projects in Zimbabwe and India.
